About Ramona
Ramona Martinez is a New Mexico attorney and public servant with more than two decades of experience working on behalf of families across the state. She has built her career helping everyday New Mexicans navigate the justice system, advocating for victims of crime, and ensuring people have fair access to legal representation.
Raised on a ranch in Tierra Amarilla, Ramona learned early what it means to work hard and show up for your community. Her mother, a teacher, and her father, a union ironworker and rancher, instilled in her the values of service, responsibility, and perseverance – values that continue to guide her today.
As a single mother, Ramona worked her way through college and law school, earning a scholarship to the University of New Mexico and later her law degree from the UNM School of Law. She later moved to Las Cruces to build a life and start a small business – deepening her roots in the community she now calls home.
Ramona’s experience spans both the courtroom and state government, including roles with the Office of Governor Bill Richardson, the Children, Youth and Families Department, and the New Mexico Retiree Health Care Authority. Her career has been defined by a focus on fairness, accountability, and making the system work better for everyday people.
She remains deeply involved in her community and the legal profession, serving on the New Mexico Border Authority, the New Mexico Sentencing Commission, and the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association, among others. In 2022, she was recognized with the Contract Defender Award for her work on behalf of clients.
Ramona believes public service is simple: show up, listen, and do the work – and she’s committed to delivering for the community she calls home.
